Settlement made in southeast Kansas age discrimination case

Mary Mays, who worked for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office from 1995 to 2017, filed a lawsuit alleging she was fired because of her age.

Mays says she had failed a firearms test but contends other deputies were allowed to retake the test and she was not. Mays was born in 1957, according to the lawsuit. She sued for damages including back pay and attorneys fees.

The lawsuit has been settled. According to court documents “.. the parties hereby stipulate that all claims asserted in this lawsuit by plaintiff against defendant are dismissed with prejudice and all claims asserted in this lawsuit by defendant against plaintiff are dismissed with prejudice..”

The terms were put into a Confidential Settlement Agreement.
