Update: More info on Hwy 171 crash, 6 hospitalized
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri Highway Patrol updates the names and conditions of those involved in a Hwy 171 crash.
The crash happened Wednesday afternoon shortly after 2:00 p.m., about three miles north of Asbury, Missouri. Six people were injured.
Authorities say a 2014 Ford Van was going west on Base Line Boulevard. It failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 171. The van hit a 2017 Lexus SUV that was going south on the highway.
Both vehicles went off the roadway into a nearby field. The work truck then caught fire.
Two people were in the Ford van. Waylon J. Campbell, 24, of Carl Junction, Missouri was a passenger. Med Flight took him to a Joplin hospital. Emergency personnel drove the driver, Joshua T. Dudley, 43, of Joplin, Missouri, to Freeman Hospital in Joplin with moderate injuries.
Four people were in the SUV. EMS took them all by ambulance to Freeman and Mercy Hospitals in Joplin. The driver, Kathi E. Bishop, 65, of Joplin had serious injuries. Passenger Deborah N. Biggers, 69, of Norman, Oklahoma had serious injuries. Tommy A. Biggers, 70, of Norman, Oklahoma had moderate injuries. Clarence L. Bishop, 83, of Joplin, had serious injuries.
METS, Carl Junction fire, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the crash.
