Head-on crash claims life of Weir, Kan. man

McCUNE, Kan. — Reports coming in about 8 p.m. on Monday evening, November 21, 2022 of a serious crash along 400 Hwy the Cherokee and Crawford County line.

Avoid or detour around 400 Hwy East of McCune near Hickory Creek. We are working a bad accident.”

Kansas Highway Patrol state it was a two-vehicle head-on crash.

Dakota Jones, 33, of Weir, Kan. was operating 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup east on 400 Hwy. He died at the scene.

Kenneth Messer, 36, of McCune, Kan. driving a 2014 Buick LaCrosse was traveling west. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Joplin hosptial.

[Dodge] was Eastbound on U400 in the Westbound lanes. [Buick] was Westbound on U400 in the Westbound lanes. [Dodge] struck [Buick] head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the Westbound lanes.
