Rynard Named to Schutt Sports/NFCA Player of the Year Watch List

Pittsburg State senior softball designated player McKenzie Rynard has been named to the top 50 watch list for the inaugural Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Year Award.

Rynard, a native of Raymore, Mo., led the Gorillas with a .436 batting average in her junior season on her way to earning first-team NFCA All-America honors. She hit 17 homes runs, 11 doubles and drove home 56 runs. She put together a .846 slugging percentage and a .500 on base percentage. She also earned a 3.78 GPA in psychology to earn Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. She is the first player in program history to earn both All-America and Academic All-America honors.

Rynard is one of five players from the MIAA to be named to the watch list. The group consists of 29 seniors, 14 juniors and seven sophomores representing 37 programs throughout Division II.

The Top 25 finalists for the 2015 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year award will be announced on April 8. While an athlete does not have to be on watch list to be considered for the Top 25, the winner will come from the 25 finalists. The Top 10 finalists will be announced on April 30 and the Top 3 on May 13 or 14 with the 2015 Division II National Player of the Year revealed on May 26.

The award was developed through the collaboration between the NFCA and the NCAA Division II Head Coaches Committee, and the generosity of Schutt Sports, the award was created to honor the outstanding athletic achievement among softball student-athletes throughout Division II.
