Romona M. Peck went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 12:56 a.m.
Romona M. Peck was born June 30th, 1926, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, at the home of her parents, O.M. and Eva (Campbell) Hurlbut. She lived in Sylvan Grove and attended the Sylvan Grove grade school and high school, where she graduated in 1944. She worked various jobs until 1952. On November 20th in 1952, she married the love of her life, Loren L. Peck. They were married in Lucas, Kansas, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Portsmouth, Virginia, where Loren completed his service on the USS Cone battleship.
They moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Loren worked for National Cash Register Co. Their first son, Troy Lee Peck, was born in Topeka in 1954. In 1956, they moved to Neodesha, Kansas, where their second son, Randall Dale Peck, was born. Romona stayed home to care for her family. In 1964, they became proud parents of twins Terry Ray and Tonya Kay. Romona worked alongside Loren whenever she was needed at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home and had also worked part-time in the kitchen at the Neodesha Schools. In addition, Romona also volunteered her time at the Neodesha Flea Market.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O.M. and Eva Hurlbut, grandparents Gola and Nora Hurlbut, two sisters and brother-in-laws Doris and Roy Bostick, and Norma and Larry Gerdes, and her son, Troy Lee Peck.
Surviving is her beloved husband of the home, sons Randy Peck of Park City, KS, and Terry Peck and family of Neodesha, KS, Daughter Tonya Cox and husband, J.D. and family of Independence, KS, Grandchildren Chelsea and Ben Schmidt of Kansas City, KS, Laci and Andy Grotheer of Pittsburg, KS, Elijah Peck of Benton, KS, Kierstyn Cox of Tallahassee FL, Collin Cox of Tallahassee FL, Cali Cox of Olathe, KS, Brandon Peck of Lebanon, ME, Greggory Peck and Jessie Medina of Ennis, Texas, two step-grandchildren, Jessica Pettengill of Port St. Lucie, FL, Anthony Langella of Old Orchard Beach, FL, and 5 great-grandchildren, Finley Peck, Everett Schmidt, Rory Schmidt, Loren, Schmidt, and Caydence Peck, and four step-great-grandchildren, Kendal Pettengill, Ashler Langella, Adrianna Langella, and Anthony Langella III.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Neodesha United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will follow at the Neodesha Cemetery.
