Robertson Named MIAA/AstroTurf Pitcher of the Week

Pittsburg State freshman Emmie Robertson has been named the MIAA/AstroTurf Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season. This is the second time Robertson has earned the honor this season.

Robertson helped guide the Gorillas to a runner-up finish in the MIAA regular season as she made an appearance in five of the six Pitt State games on the week and earned a 4-0 record for the week. Robertson’s biggest accomplishment of the week was breaking a 13-year-old school record for individual strikeouts in a season in the second inning of game one against Central Oklahoma on Sunday (April 26). She now has 212 strikeouts on the season, which leads the MIAA. In the second game she went on to help the Gorilla pitching staff set the school record for team strikeouts in a season with 285.

For the week, Robertson pitched 31.0 innings, including four complete games and winning both of Sunday’s games over Central Oklahoma to earn the second-place spot in the league standings. She struck out 32 batters on the week, while allowing the opponents only a .181 batting average and earning a 1.31 ERA.

Robertson leads the MIAA with a 1.88 ERA, a .202 opponent batting average, 201.1 innings pitched, 212 bvatters struck out, including 55 looking, and wins with a 23-8 record.

The 5-9 freshman is a native of Lamar, Mo.

The Gorillas open MIAA Tournament play on Thursday, April 30 at 5 p.m. against Washburn at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland, Park, Kan. All-MIAA awards will be announced at the tournament Opening Ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
