Reveal ceremony planned for new video scoreboard
Joplin, MO (SNS) – The new video scoreboard in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center at Missouri Southern State University will be revealed during a ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday at the basketball arena.
The scoreboard was made possible through an anonymous, $250,000 donation that was announced in October. The donation was designated by the donors for the specific purpose of constructing the new scoreboard.
The board was manufactured by Nevco, a video scoreboard company based in Greenville, Ill. Construction of the scoreboard, which is 8.5 feet tall and 10.5 feet wide, began in November. It features four 40-square-foot LED video screens, each one approximately 5 x 8 feet in size.
The center-hung video scoreboard has the capability to show replays, statistics, graphics and videos. It can be utilized not only for basketball or other athletic events, but for concerts, ceremonies and other events held each semester at the athletic center.
Students from athletics and the Department of Communication have been trained to run the scoreboard, and a control room has been constructed with the assistance of students and staff from KGCS-TV.
“It’s a great time to be a Lion,” said Athletics Director Jared Bruggeman. “I want to thank everyone involved with making this video board a reality. From the donation that allowed us to purchase it, to the countless hours of work that have gone into its installation and to the numerous hours that will be needed for its operation, there are so many people that have helped this addition make the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center the finest basketball facility in the MIAA, as well as one of the best in Division II.”
