Police chase in Pittsburg leaves behind damage
PITTSBURG, Kan. – A suspect vehicle is hit by another car and then hits a tree during a police chase in Pittsburg.
This afternoon, May 5, 2020 around 12:25 p.m., a Pittsburg Police officer tried to stop a vehicle in the area of the 2100 block of N. Broadway Street. Police say the officer saw a registration violation.
The vehicle didn’t stop for police and fled south on Broadway. Police say the suspect failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of 20th St. and Broadway and was then hit by another vehicle traveling west on 20th St.
Authorities say the suspect vehicle then hit a tree in the Walgreen’s parking lot before continuing south. The suspect vehicle eventually stopped in the 100 block of E. 17th St.
Police say three occupants exited the suspect vehicle and started running. Police caught one of the passengers shortly after, but they have since released them.
The Pittsburg Police Department says the identity of the driver of the suspect vehicle, as well as the other passengers, is unknown at this time.
