Renovations help expand the after school program at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Missouri
JOPLIN, Mo. – The Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Missouri gets a face lift.
Crews are remodeling the Joplin club and are putting in a new addition. Officials say the project will add new bathrooms, a kitchen, a teen center, and a safe room. All in all, the new addition will provide another 13,000 square feet of space. It won’t just look nicer, there is an educational benefit as well.
Sarah McMullen, with the Boys and Girls Club, says the revovations will give the afterschool program a boost, “Our kids are going to have nicer newer equipment and more modern and up to date tech for all of their programming. We are going to incorporate a lot more science and hands on stuff because we are going to have the space.” McMullen adds the kids will get a lot more education.
Officials say they expect to have the remodeling finished by the start of school with work on the new addition finished shortly after. However, they say donations are still needed to pay for the work.
