Reginald Gregg ‘Reggie’ Thomas, age 91, Joplin, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, at Mercy Hospital after suffering from a stroke.

Reggie was born January 8, 1929 in Joplin, Missouri to the late A.R. Thomas and Florence Higginbotham Thomas. He was baptized at the age of eight years in the South Joplin Christian Church, Joplin, Missouri. In 1943 he and his parents moved to Miami, Oklahoma, where he became very active in the First Christian Church. He dedicated his life to a specific Christian service at the age of 16, and under the ministry of Russell L. Martin was inspired to begin preaching immediately. He graduated from Miami High School in 1947 and attended Cincinnati Bible seminary, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Reggie was a full-time evangelist, and his work took him to many parts of the world. He served 3 located ministries; 1955-1961 Catlin Church of Christ, Catlin, Illinois, 1961-1966 East Point Christian Church, East Point, Ga, and 1979-1987 Hickory Valley Christian Church, Chattanooga, TN. The other years he spent travelling worldwide. In 1978 he organized White Fields Overseas Evangelism. It is the goal of White Fields to take the Gospel to every nation. He traveled to 83 nations, established over 700 churches, and over 400,000 baptisms. Many people have shared in these crusades including his own family. On July 1, 2017, Reggie realized it was time to slow down and retire. He asked his youngest daughter Lori to be the Director of White Fields.

During his retirement, Reggie wrote a book of his memories at located ministries and a few from his time as a traveling Evangelist.

Reggie loved his family with all his heart. He cherished the time he spent with them. He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

He married Esther Matthews on December 17, 1977 in Lamar, Missouri. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his children, Tony Thomas and wife, Christie, Tracy Thomas and wife, Janie, Chris Henson and husband, Mark, Tim Thomas and wife, Sandy, Teresa Diener, and husband, Bud, Lori Darnell and husband, Zane; twenty six grandchildren; forty three great grandchildren a sister, Barbara Barger; a brother, Ed Thomas; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Reggie was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Thomas and Tom Fullerton.

Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church. Pastor David Johnson, Pastor Truman Brady and Pastor Tony Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at First Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to White Fields Overseas Evangelism, in care of the mortuary.
