Red-hot Columbus remains undefeated at midway point in season

The Trojans are 11-0 with 11 games remaining

COLUMBUS, Ks. – The Columbus Titans are one of the hottest softball teams in southeast Kansas. The Titans are halfway through their regular season schedule and they’re 11-0.
They’ve scored 128 runs this season, averaging about 12 runs per game. Seven of those runs have been home runs. Grace Major leads the team with three.

“The girls are buying in and knowing that they have to be about to lay down a bunt and they have to be able to get a good solid hit,” head coach Aimee Saporito says of her team’s offense.

Their numbers on defense are just as impressive. Columbus has four shutouts and have held their opponents to three runs or less in all but one of their contests.

“Our pitchers have stepped up as leaders,” Saporito says. “All year long, including the offseason and preseason, they’ve been working to be prepared in the circle. All of our pitchers want to have the ball in the circle all the time.”

Stats aside, they’re having fun and Saporito says that goes a long way.

“They’re having a lot of fun,” Saporito says. “Not just with the success that they’re having but playing together as a team. The comradery that I see is amazing. Every game, every inning they’re having a good time and cheering each other on. They’re having a lot of fun with it. It’s huge. That’s something that we focus on. When they’re excited, they’re doing well. That energy carries over and they know that. They’re starting to see that.”

Columbus is back in action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Pittsburg.
