Quapaw deputies respond to weekend shooting

QUAPAW, Okla. – Quapaw deputies arrest one suspect after he allegedly shot another man in the chest this past weekend.

On Saturday, April 30th, police officers responded to a supposed shooting in the 400 block of South Chestnut in Quapaw.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they made contact with victim Jerry Witham, 49. According to the police report, Witham had been shot a single time in the chest.

EMS then transported Witham to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Authorities say he is in stable condition.

Following investigations, officers arrested Mark Daugherty, 48, of the Shawnee Tribe.

After speaking to multiple witnesses, deputies arrested Daughtery for Attempted Murder and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Prosecutors have formally filed charges.

Quapaw Marshals, BIA, Miami PD and Commerce PD responded to the crime.
