Public hearing on Liberty Utilities rate increase request in Joplin, Feb. 3

JOPLIN, Mo. – On August 14, 2019, Liberty Utilities/Empire District Electric filed a request to increase annual electric revenues by about $26.5 million.

According to the filing with the Missouri Public Service Commission, an average residential customer using 1,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity a month would see electric rates increase by approximately $7.85 a month.

The PSC is holding a public hearing tonight, Feb. 3, at 6:00 p.m. at Missouri Southern State University Plaster Hall-Cornell Auditorium (3950 E. Newman Road, Joplin, Mo.)

PSC staff will be there to present information and answer questions at 6:00 p.m. The Commission will then hear testimony from the public at 6:30 p.m.

Empire serves customers in the Missouri counties of Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone and Taney.

PSC will be in Branson on Feb. 4 at Branson Council Chambers (110 W. Maddux, Ste. 210) at 12:30 p.m.
