Prosecutors request charges for fatal juvenile shooting suspect

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – A 19-year-old faces charges for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of a Chanute Juvenile, officers say.

Police took Treyvin Xavier-Hayes into custody for questioning as a person of interest on March 15.

As a result, Montgomery County Prosecutors requested the following charges:

  • Involuntary manslaughter; Recklessly
  • Aggravated endangering a child; Reckless Situation to Child Less Than 18
  • Contribute to a Child Misconduct; Unknown circumstance
  • Interference with LEO; unknown circumstance; felony

Officers say the investigation is ongoing, with additional arrests and charges to be expected.

Fatal juvenile shooting

The shooting happened in Coffeyville, Kansas on Sunday, March 13, 2022. Around 11:59 pm, police officers responded to the 200 block of North Walnut Street for a shooting. They got there and found a juvenile gunshot victim of Chanute, Kansas.

EMS took the victim to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center where the juvenile later died from injuries.
