Price Cutter in Joplin to close before the end of April
April 20th scheduled as last day
JOPLIN, Mo. — *Update: The Price Cutter location will close on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at 7:00 pm. The company says its employees will be relocated to surrounding locations: Carthage, Neosho and Baxter Springs.
We spoke with an employee at the Price Cutter location at 1850 Maiden Lane in Joplin about why they were closing and he told us with emotion, their building, has been sold. The Price Cutter here on Maiden Lane has served the Joplin community under many hats for more than 25 years. But that all comes to an end on April 20th.
Employees confirmed to KOAM the store will be closing to make way for an expansion of the James River Church, which recently opened a campus in the victory building on Hammons Boulevard. The employee we spoke with said that Price Cutter leases the building and that the owner informed them he had sold the building to James River Church.
One customer we spoke with declined to go on camera but said she was shocked and saddened the store is closing because she walks to it regularly to buy her groceries. KOAM has reached out to officials with the James River Church but our requests for comment have not been returned.
