4/26/2016: Montez Powell was sentenced to 10 years in jail as part of a plea bargain. According to court proceedings, he will first complete 120 days in alcohol and drug treatment. After the 120 days, the court will review his progress to decide if he will serve the full term or be place on probation.

1/25/2016: According to court documents, the court accepted the Powell’s plea of guilty for 1st Degree Assault. He is due back in court in April.

On October 20, 2014 at 524 S. Club, Joplin, MO, Jasper County Missouri, Montez D Powell committed the crime of Assault in the First Degree and Armed Criminal Action and the facts to support that are as follows:

On October 20, 2014, Officers with the Joplin Police Department were called to 524 S. Club Ave. in reference to a shooting. The victim, Quincy Wells, reported being shot by his cousin, the suspect, Montez Powell. Wells stated that he was asleep and woke up to someone knocking on the door. Wells stated that he answered the door and Powell pulled a gun and began shooting at him. QW was struck one time in the abdomen which caused extensive bleeding.

Wells is currently in stable condition.
