Police release names after Tuesday’s fatal crash on I44

Joplin Police release more information after a September 3rd crash on I-44 claimed the life of three people. A father and child were also hospitalized.

The crash happened around 3:00 pm in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 12.8, near the Missouri 249 interchange.

According to police, a silver Toyota Rav4 was traveling east on I-44 in the third lane, east of Missouri 249.

Police say the Rav4 stopped in the right lane of traffic and was hit by a Toyota pickup truck, also traveling east.

All of the occupants in the Rav4 were immediate family.

The father (driver), Pravash Ojha, of Blue Springs, Missouri, was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition at this time (4:19 pm, Aug 4).

His 4-year-old boy was restrained in a car seat at the time of the crash. EMS took him to a hospital for life threatening injuries.

The child’s mother (front seat passenger), Sraddha Ojha Khanal, of Blue Springs, and his grandparents (back seat passengers), Shanta Khanal and Govinda Khanal, both of Nepal, were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation by the Joplin Police Department Crash Team.
