Police identify Joplin shooting victim

JOPLIN, Mo. – A Carthage man is in critical condition after a shooting this morning in Joplin.

On September 8, 2020 around 1:52 a.m. the Joplin Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the area of 4th and Brownell Avenue.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound. They provided first aid on scene until EMS took him to a local hospital for further treatment. Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Timothy J. Shorter. He’s currently listed in critical condition, according to a Tuesday morning news release from the Joplin Police Department.

Detectives spoke to the person who shot Shorter on scene and say they’re not currently looking for any other involved individuals. Police say there is no active threat to the community related to this incident.

Authorities have not arrested or charged anyone yet  and are still investigating.
