Pittsburg’s Minniefield signs to join Pitt State track and field program

Minniefield is a 3X state qualifier in the shot put for the Purple Dragons, finishing 3rd in the state as a junior.

Pittsburg High School senior Lyric Minniefield signed her letter of intent on Tuesday afternoon to continue her track and field career at the college level.

Minniefield is staying in Pittsburg, signing to join the Pittsburg State track and field program.

“It feels amazing that someone wanted me to come throw for their team and be a part of their family,” Minniefield says of signing with the PSU program, “I’m nervous and excited. As long as I put in the work that I need to put in, then I’ll be OK.”

Minnifield will throw for the Gorillas. She’s a 3X state qualifier in the shot put, finishing 3rd in the state as a junior.

She grew up around Pitt State and is excited to join the Gorilla family.

“I was usually at every home football game,” Minniefield adds, “I tried to go to every basketball home game and some volleyball games. I really like the family atmosphere of Pitt State.”

Minniefield says she plans to get her degree at Pitt State to become an elementary school teacher after college.
