Pittsburg’s Linahan signs to Neosho CC softball

Sydney Linahan is an All-SEK player at PHS

Pittsburg High School senior Sydney Linahan signed her letter of intent Thursday afternoon to join the Neosho County Community College softball team.

Linahan is a 3X letter-winner for the Purple Dragons. In her sophomore season at PHS, Linahan hit .450 with 5 doubles and a home run, driving in 23 runs. She was named 2nd team All-SEK and honorable mention All-State by Sports in Kansas.

Last year as a junior, Linahan hit .379 with three doubles, driving in 14 runs and scoring 19 times.

She says she is glad to have the recruiting process behind her, so she can focus on playing her final year for the Purple Dragons.

“I feel like a weight is off my shoulders now,” Linahan says, “I don’t have to worry about where I’m going. I don’t have to worry about what I want to do. It’s just a great experience. I’m not going to have to worry about people watching me to see where I want to go. They’re going to be there supporting me no matter how good or bad I do on the field.”

While she will be moving off to play in college, Chanute isn’t a very far drive from Pittsburg. Linahan says staying close to home was a priority when deciding where to play her college ball.

“It’s close to home, so I can come back and watch my brother, watch other friends that are still here,” she adds, “It’s something I really wanted to do. Probably on the top of my list was something close to home and not far away.”
