Pittsburg sports complex to be renovated
PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Don Gutteridge Sports Complex in Pittsburg, Kansas will soon undergo construction. Officials say work on new concession and restroom facilities is scheduled to begin in late January of 2019.
Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Director Kim Vogel says the much-needed enhancements will serve patrons of the sports complex during ballgames, tournaments and other special events throughout the year.
“Thousands of families visit the facility for sporting events on an annual basis,” says Vogel. “These upgrades are going to make a big difference for all of our patrons who utilize the sports complex.”
The Don Gutteridge Sports Complex is located at 702 Memorial Drive inside Lincoln Park. City officials say it hosts dozens of events with about 35,000 to 40,000 players and visitors each year.
The City of Pittsburg says a $200,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and an estimated $227,000 from the City of Pittsburg is funding the project.
The City says construction is expected to be finished in April of 2019, weather permitting.
