The $67.6 million bond would have meant an increase in property taxes to fund remodeling and expansion at the high school, demolition & rebuilding of the old part of the middle school, and storm shelters at each elementary school.

The mail-in ballot for today’s school bond proposal had to be in by noon. The clerk’s office completed the count this afternoon.

Statement from Superintendent Destry Brown:

“First, I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to get information out to the public about the bond. I am very proud of the work of the Vision Committees and our incredible staff.

I am disappointed by the outcome of the election. However, I am proud of the number of people who participated in the election. We wanted this to be a community decision, and the community has spoken.

After spending more than two years getting input from the community, we thought we had the right plan. We will continue to enlist the help of our community to determine a plan the community can support in the future and then determine the best plan of action to put the plan into place.”
