Pittsburg Post #64 wins 5th state title, first since 2014
The Patriots advance to the Mid South Regional in Hastings, Nebraska
PITTSBURG, Ks. – Pittsburg Post #64 claims the team’s 5th KS American Legion state title on Saturday. The last time Pittsburg won was in 2014.
The Patriots defeated the Kansas Senators out of Topeka by a score of 9 to 6 in the championship game. Pittsburg dropped just one game in during the tournament, but they were certainly challenged along the way. Head coach, Tyler Brynds says his team is resilient.
“We never give up. We say it all the time, that we won’t go out without a fight and that any situation we feel like we’re comfortable in. That helps a lot in those tight games and those tight moments,” Brynds says. “It’s a dream come true. We’ve been working really hard for this. It takes a lot of work that goes into this and it all paid off and it felt great.”
Pittsburg advances to the Mid South Regional in Hastings, Nebraska. They are one of eight teams competing in the double elimination tournament.
The Patriots head out of Tuesday and play their first game on Wednesday.
