Pittsburg police arrest two men for burglary
Pittsburg, Kan. — Pittsburg police make two arrests in connection with a burglary. Authorities say the crime happened at a home on 511 N Woodland St. Saturday Aug. 24.
Thieves stole numerous items including cash, powertools and firearms while no one was home. Wednesday Aug. 28 police located two suspects on the 500 block of E 14th St. The suspects apparently tried to sell the stolen property to one of the victim’s relatives.
Officers arrested both men and booked them into the Crawford County Jail. The two were arrested for felony theft of a firearm, felony burglary of a dwelling with intent to commit a theft, felony burglary of a dwelling with intent to steal a firearm, felony theft and misdemeanor criminal damage.
One of the suspects was on parole for a prior conviction. Police identified him as 58-year-old Gary Murphy of Pittsburg. He is additionally accused of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Murphy is being held without bond.
The second suspect is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Neither have officially been charged yet.
The powertools and all but one of the firearms stolen were recovered. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at (620) 231-1700 or at the automated top line (620) 231-TIPS (8477.)
