Pittsburg Parks and Recreation holds O.K Kids Day

PITTSBURG, Ks. -It was a beautiful day across the four-states today and many area communities had events to get folks outdoors.

Today, Pittsburg Parks and Recreation held their outdoor Kansas kids day event to encourage kids to be outside.

The annual O.K kids day held numerous events around the city to get kids outside. this year due to the pandemic they had to limit their activities and number of people registered. The biggest change was the removal of their canoeing activity, but they’re saying their goal of getting kids active hasn’t changed.

“I think it still has the same meaning, we’re still, our goal is to get the kids outdoors. It’s outdoor Kansas kids day, so we’re still getting that aspect of it. But we’re just limiting the amount of activities. And the amount of participants,” said Ashten Clark, Recreation Program Manager in Pittsburg.

Clark added the day holds such high importance because it gets kids away from devices and into the outdoors.

“This day is so important because kids get the opportunity to come outdoors, drop the electronics for the day, and just get back out with nature and that’s a huge aspect that we’re missing nowadays with kids,” Clark said.

Activities included fishing, archery, as well as many other outdoor activities.
