Pittsburg enters state rankings, Girard moves to #1

The Pittsburg Purple Dragons (4-0) have made the KBCA basketball rankings for the first time this season, coming in at #7 in the 5A poll this week.

Pittsburg is not the only local team moving up the rankings this week. In class 3A the Girard Trojans have moved up two spots to #1, while Baxter Springs entered the rankings for the first time at #9. The Lions topped 2A #1 Colgan on Friday 62-40.

With that loss to Baxter Springs, the Colgan boys have slipped down from #1 in class 2A to #5. The Yates Center Wildcats remain at #7 in class 2A in this week’s poll.

In class 4A, Parsons slipped down a couple spots to #7. Independence has made the rankings for the first time this season, coming in one spot ahead of Parsons at #6.
