Pittsburg chess players come together to form club

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Chess players in Pittsburg are coming together to form their own club and begin tournaments in southeast Kansas.

On Sunday, these chess players met up for the first time at Root Coffeehouse in Pittsburg, playing rounds to brush up on their skills and raise their ranks on the competitive level.

The plan is to make this club grow, meeting up every week to learn new moves and strategies to take to tournaments.

One player hoping to expand on his technique says chess provides a fun challenge.

“I just got really into it because it’s a really tactical game and I like strategy stuff and thinking outside of the box and whatnot,” said Matthew Adams, one chess player at the event.

The group hopes to eventually host a tournament every other month.
