Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce to host “Women in Business Entrepreneur Series”

PITTSBURG, Ks.–Gloria Montes, owner of Montes Roofing knows firsthand that being a woman-owned business comes with its challenges.

“We are a women-owned and minority-owned in the state of Kansas. From what I can check on their records, we’re the only one with both certifications in the state…scary you know, it brings pressure.”

The city’s chamber of commerce wants to help women business owners like Montes.

“It’s the kickoff of our first of a four-part series that we’re going to offer business owners.”

It’s called the women in business entrepreneur series, with the goal to get more women-owned businesses here in Pittsburg and to help out the many already established.

“So a lot of our businesses are women-owned here in our community, and we want to bring something to the community and to those if they’re thinking about opening a business, you know, in the midst of coming out of Covid. People have taken their side hustle and made it a business, and now they’re wanting to put that into a brick and mortar store.”

Julie Reams, special event director for the Pittsburg Chamber explains that through the series the Chamber aims to teach Pittsburg women what they need to know to take the next step towards starting their business.

“And we wanted to bring these informational sessions to women who are thinking about opening a business and start off on the right foot, whether learn what the difference is between a corporation and LLC cash flow, what those projections are like. and also, we will have a panelists discussion therefrom three women-owned businesses that have started their own business and are in their own building.”

The chamber is joining forces with Pittsburg State’s small business development center, something Montes is familiar with.

“The Kansas small business development at Pitt State, they’re able to help with writing a business plan…so that kind of helped me a lot in getting started and getting the ball rolling.”

And no matter if you’re starting out or already have a business, the chamber hopes they can help all female entrepreneurs.

The series will kick off on December 2nd a the Block 22 Conference room in Downtown Pittsburg.
