Pitt State’s series with Washburn moved to Pittsburg
The Gorillas will face Washburn Thursday

The Pittsburg State University baseball team’s MIAA series against Washburn University has been moved to Pittsburg due to the weather.
The Gorillas and Ichabods originally were scheduled to play games at Falley Field at Topeka Friday through Sunday (Mar. 1-3). The two teams now will play a single game Thursday (Feb. 28) at 3 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field and complete the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday (Mar. 1).
The Gorillas enter the series with a 7-5 overall record and a 2-1 mark in MIAA play. Pitt State took two of three games from Southwest Baptist University in the conference opening weekend of play last week. The Ichabods are 6-6 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play. WU dropped two of three games at Lindenwood University last weekend.
Pitt State is batting .247 as a team and scoring 6.5 runs per game on the young season. Pitt State pitchers have a 4.73 team ERA with 105 strikeouts in 104 2/3 innings of work.
Senior designed hitter Reece Garvie leads the squad with a .400 batting average with seven doubles, three home runs and 13 RBIs. Garvie suffered a hand injury against SBU and is not expected in the lineup for the Gorillas for the WU series. Junior shortstop Marc Gonzalez is hitting .325 with nine runs scored and four RBIs, while junior first baseman Ty Herenbruck is batting .256 with five home runs and 12 RBIs.
On the mound, senior lefthander Brad Kinsey (2-0, 2.00 ERA) and senior righthander Alex Achtermann (1-2, 5.50 ERA) each have made four starts for the Gorillas. Senior righthander Brendan Stanek (2-0, 5.62 ERA) also has made three starts.
