Pitt State’s Franklin, Lozoya named All-MIAA
Lozoya leads the MIAA in scoring (22.3 ppg)
PITTSBURG, Kan. — RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:
Pittsburg State University senior guards Donovan Franklin and Grant Lozoya earned All-MIAA honors Tuesday (Mar. 5). The backcourt duo were each named to the third-team All-MIAA squad.
Franklin has averaged 20.9 points and 6.0 rebounds in 26 games played. The St. Louis, Mo., native missed two games due to injury. He ranks fifth in the MIAA in scoring and also ranks second in the conference in free throw percentage (.889, 128-144). Franklin has scored 544 points on the year, ranking 13 th all-time at PSU in single season scoring. He has scored 974 points in 52 career games for the Gorillas (18.7 ppg).
Lozoya has averaged a team-leading 22.3 points, 3.6 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game in his second season in the Pitt State program. The Agoura Hills, Calif., native leads the MIAA in scoring and ranks third in the league in free throw percentage (.875, 147-168) and 12th in the conference in rebounding. Lozoya has scored 623 points on the year, ranking fifth all-time at PSU in single season scoring. He became the 24th player in Pitt State history to reach 1,000 career points. He has scored 1,001 points in 57 career games for the Gorillas (17.6 ppg).
Pitt State finished the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and a 9-10 mark in MIAA play. The Gorillas earned the No. 6 seed in the 2019 MIAA Postseason Tournament. The Gorillas will face No. 3 seed Missouri Southern State University Friday (Mar. 8) at Municipal Auditorium at Kansas City, Mo.
