Pitt State Women earn at-large big to NCAA DII National Tournament

The Pittsburg State University women’s basketball team earned an at-large berth into the 64-team NCAA Division II National Tournament Sunday (March 10). The Gorillas earned the No. 8 seed in the Central Regional that will take place Mar. 15, 16 and 18 at Fort Hays State University at Hays, Kan.

The Gorillas (21-8) will make their 11th all-time trip to the NCAA-II Tournament – the program’s fifth berth in the last seven years and the debut appearance under first-year head coach Amanda Davied.

Pitt State will face top-seeded Fort Hays State (30-1) in the regional quarterfinals Friday (Mar. 15) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. FHSU earned an automatic berth after capturing the 2019 MIAA Tournament Championship Sunday.

Other regional match-ups pit the No. 2 seed Southwestern Oklahoma (30-1), the GAC champion, against No. 7 seed Emporia State (22-8); No. 3 seed Central Missouri (24-6), the defending NCAA Division II National Champion, against No. 6 seed Lindenwood (21-7); and No. 4 seed Minnesota Duluth (23-6), the NSIC Champion, against No. 5 seed Minnesota State-Moorhead (26-6).
