Pitt State rides back to back wins into rivalry week

Pitt State and Missouri Southern hit the floor on Wednesday and Saturday

PITTSBURG, Ks. – Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern meet this week for a pair of games on Wednesday and Saturday.

“That rivalry has always made us play a lot harder, so I’m super excited for it,” says Pitt State guard Tristan Gegg.

PSU has won their last 3 of 4 games including wins over Northwest and #21 Missouri Western last week. The Gorillas beat the Griffons by 26 points on Saturday.

“We got two huge wins and it really brings us confidence and togetherness going into the game against Missouri Southern.” Gegg says.

Southern is currently in first place in the MIAA. Pitt is excited for the challenge.

“We were playing for each other during those two games last week,” says Pitt State guard Erin Davis. “We need to continue to do those things. It’s brings us closer together as a team and we’re getting better each day that we practice together.”

“We have to go out and play with the intent of stopping everyone,” Gegg says. “They all can shoot, they can drive. We have to help each other and we have to fly to shooters and stay down on drivers. We have to play our butts off to be honest.”

The Gorillas begin the week on the road before returning home for the second meeting against the Lions on Saturday.

“We’ll get to finish at our place, so that’s always fun. I think both these games are going to be challenging and they’ll be a blast, so I’m super excited,” Gegg says.

Wednesday’s game between Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern begins at 5:30 pm at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
