Pitt State moves to 6-0 at home with win over Newman

The Gorillas top the Jets Tuesday night to get to 6-0 on their home floor this season.

The Gorillas (9-4) are now 6-0 on their home floor this season.


The Pittsburg State University volleyball team opened its week with a win over Newman University Tuesday (Sept. 28), 3-0.

The Gorillas got started early in the first set with a 20-8 start. After a short rally by Newman, Pitt State would go on to take the set over the Jets, 25-15.

Pitt State would carry the momentum into set two taking the set 25-12. Set three the Jets would take an early lead 13-11. After a Gorilla timeout Pitt State would carry out the set with a final score of 25-19.

Junior setter Bri Richard notched 33 assist and four digs against the Jets. Junior libero Marissa Bates tallied 18 digs on the night for the Gorillas. Senior middle hitter led Pitt State with 10 kills and two digs in the match.

The Gorillas will head to Warrensburg, Mo. for a match against Central Missouri Thursday (Sept. 30). First serve for the bout against the Jennies is set for 6 p.m. (CDT).
