Pitt State Men Secure MIAA Runner-Up Finish

The Pittsburg State University men’s outdoor track & field team finished as the meet runner-up in the 2016 MIAA Outdoor Championships Sunday (May 8) at Hershell Neil Track on the Northwest Missouri State University campus.

The Gorillas compiled 134 points but came up a fraction short in their bid for a fifth straight MIAA outdoor crown. Missouri Southern State University surged Sunday afternoon to post 145 points and claim the team crown. Lincoln University, the reigning 2016 MIAA Indoor Champion squad, finished third with 104 points.

Pitt State got strong showings in the throwing disciplines as the Gorillas made their push to retain their crown.

Garrett Appier captured the MIAA title in the shot put with a winning toss of 67 feet, 0.5 inches. Bo Farrow finished third in the discipline with a heave of 55-9.25. Farrow added an MIAA runner-up effort in the hammer throw, making a top mark of (180-1), while Appier placed fourth in the discipline (172-10) and Joseph Talbert finished fifth (170-5).

Jon Blazevic (198-7), Jordan Morton (195-3) and Jake Robison (187-11) placed third, fourth and seventh, respectively, in the javelin throw.

On the track, the 400 meter relay team of Elijah McGill, Tanner McNutt, Slade Nordic and Louis Rollins placed third with a fast time of 41.12.
