COACH WILLIAMS SAYS:

“Our biggest strengths this season will be experience and speed. We have a lot of kids back. We need all of our seniors to be leaders for us. They have been on the field for the last two years. We need to stay healthy and be able to run the football when other teams know it’s coming.”

2021 REVIEW

Vinita has finished above .500 in each of their first two years under head coach Matt Williams, finishing 6-5 overall in 2021. “We have played a lot of underclassmen in the last two years,” Wiliams says, “We had to deal with a lot of injuries last year. Other kids had to take the field and grow up quickly. That will benefit us this year with our depth.” While the Hornets bring back quite a few guys, they do lose a big player in Kyron Downing to graduation, who has gone on to play for Southeast Missouri State.

2022 SEASON OUTLOOK

There’s a lot to like about Vinita. They have a lot of players back. A lot of talented players back who put up big numbers last season, and some key guys returning from injury that will only make them better. While they will have a lot of the same players, there are some changes in 2022 for the Hornets. “Moving down a classification is the biggest change for us this season,” says head coach Matt Williams, “We are going to see a lot of new teams we haven’t seen before.” Even with those changes, expectations are high for this team heading into the fall. “We want to be district champions, and we want to play in week 15 for the state championship,” coach Williams says. Should be a fun team to watch here.
