Class 2A District 1

CNC Conference

School Colors: Blue and White

Head Coach: Shawn Seematter (33-13, 5th season)

Assistant coaches: Wayne Cichon (DC), Nick Dellasega (WR/DB) and Joey Caskey (OL/DL)

“Our team strength will be our leadership from our senior class. Several of them have missed time due to injuries the last couple years, so they are itching to have successful junior seasons and make up for the time they have missed. The time missed during their injuries gave them a new perspective that they can use to their advantage.”

Five Year Trend (Playoffs)

  • 2020: 7-3 (Sectionals)
  • 2019: 7-4 (Sectionals)
  • 2018: 9-3 (Sub-State)
  • 2017: 10-3 (State Runner-Up)
  • 2016: 8-4 (Sub-State)

Colgan continued to roll last year in their 4th season under head coach Shawn Seemater. The Panthers were 7-3 overall and once again won a few games in the postseason. “Adapting to COVID, overcoming obstacles associated with COVID and being able to play an entire season was the best part of last year,” Seematter says, “I was proud of the way our kids handled themselves all summer and handled the pre-season changes. It allowed us to play a full season and make another deep run in the playoffs. We got better each week and came together at the end of the season, which is when you want to be playing your best.” Colgan does lose some talented players to graduation, including Janko Kalan and Kannon Keller, who are both going to play at Pittsburg State. They lose a big senior class with a bunch of key guys, but they do return a good group that’s been waiting for their turn.

Colgan lost some players who made big plays for them last season. Guys like Gianni Piccini, Dom Bevilacqua, Kannon Keller and others. However, they do have a talented group of guys with some experience who will lead this team in 2021. “Aidan Fleming, Will Glover, Jalen VanBecelaere and Brody Kannarr will be our on-field leaders,” says coach Seematter, “All of those guys are returning starters who played on both sides of the ball. We will have a small group with a lot of varsity experience from last season. How well we bring along the young and inexperienced players will dictate how successful we are throughout the year. We will need to get better in the small details of execution on both sides of the ball. Because we will have to rely on younger players in some spots, we will have to understand responsibilities and assignments and have the technique and fundamentals to execute effectively.” There’s no reason to think Colgan won’t do what they always do. They’re going to win a lot of games, play some tough bigger schools early in the regular season and be playing their best at the end of October. Look at their schedule. Those first three weeks will teach them everything they need to know before heading down the final stretch. “Our goals this year are just to help everyone, coaches and players, fulfill their roles to the maximum ability and to be the best team that we can be. We want to win a district championship and a state championship. To do this, we will rely on strong, trusting relationships amongst player and coaches.”
