“Last season, our players learned how to fight. A lot of players played different spots on the field the last four games. Our team lost the last four games but learned how to pull together and not quit.”

Five Year Trend (Playoffs)

  • 2020: 3-4 (First Round)
  • 2019: 7-3 (Second Round)
  • 2018: 4-5 (First Round)
  • 2017: 0-7 (No Playoffs)
  • 2016: 0-9 (No Playoffs)

Southeast was off to a good start in 2020, winning three of their first four games. However, like many teams last year, the Lancers faced adversity. In the middle of the season, they lost more than twenty players to COVID, and two games were cancelled. They were unable to recover after the break-in play, falling in their final three games of the season. “I just did not do a good job of getting us back on track,” Cheney says. It was his first season as head coach, and Southeast finished with a 3-4 record.

The Lancers enter the season with a year of experience under head coach, Nick Cheney. They are returning eight starters on offense and seven starters on defense. Cheney is also expecting great leadership from this year’s group. Nate Jacobs is an important two-way player for the Lancers. “He needs to be on the field on both sides of the ball.” Cade Burdette adds athleticism and smarts to the team. Cullen Mutz is returning following a junior campaign in which he rushed for over 600 yards. Brandon Favuzzi racked up 70 tackles last year. He’s a hard worker and will be an important leader as an offensive and defensive lineman. “Ryan Wilkins and Cooper Hamblin should be two of the best defensive ends in our league,” adds Cheney. Southeast is hoping to field a bigger, stronger team. “We have more players in the weight room this past summer,” Cheney says. He specifically points out Cash Windsor as one of those guys. To be successful, Southeast is looking to improve their red zone efficiency and play hard on every down. There won’t be any time to waste, as they host Uniontown for their season opener. Cheney expects the Eagles to be the toughest competition in the league this year.
