The Indians took a step back last season, finishing with a 3-7 record, their poorest since 2016. Seneca won its season opener against Marshfield 34-30. Cody Hilburn was named the new head coach of the Indians this past offseason. It’s a homecoming from Hilburn as he returns to his alma mater after 10 years on the Carthage football coaching staff. In this new era for the Indians, Hilburn is looking for a strong leadership presence from his senior class, specifically, Jaxson Graham, Dane Napier, Brock Hultman, Tanner Nesvold and Gabe Commons. Hilburn says the summer is going well for his new team. “We have a group of good kids that aren’t afraid of hard work. They have been committed to showing up all summer and getting better every single day.” In his first year, Hilburn’s goal is to improve each week. “My expectation for this team is to be playing our best football at the end of the season.” Seneca will face Lamar, the defending state champions, in their second to last regular season game.
