2020 REVIEW
For the first time since 2013-2015 Northeast has had three consecutive seasons of putting a W in the win column. Coach Pitts and the Vikings look to keep the trend going in 2021. The Vikings unfortunately did not find strength in numbers last season having less than 20 players on the roster to finish the season as they finished with a record of 1-7. Although short-handed, Coach Pitts believed his team made vast improvements throughout the Fall. “The players learned to be more disciplined and really came together to promote the unified team concept,” he said. “Many players stepped forward into leadership roles both on and off the field.” One of the biggest downfalls for Northeast was defense. Opponents averaged almost 40 points per game against the Vikings. On a positive note, having a small team brings in a team full of experience in 2021.

2021 SEASON OUTLOOK
Northeast looks to improve from last year’s 1-7 record behind senior RB/LB Eric Smith. Smith is returning this year as the Vikings’ only senior from the 2020 squad. Coach Pitts believes that Smith and other upperclassmen will be great leaders for the Vikings – both on and off the field. Pitts said in order for the Vikings to find success this season, they need to cut back on playing sloppy football. “We need to be able to pass the ball, cut down on turnovers and play more disciplined defense.” Pitts hopes for the Vikings to find continued improvement throughout the season as they strive to finish with their first .500 record since 2014.
