“I took this job because I love Jayhawk-Linn. I was a student-athlete here and I had always hoped to be able to coach here someday. I hope to foster in our athletes a team-first mentality, where they hold themselves and each other accountable to do the things necessary to win games.”

Five Year Trend (Playoffs)

  • 2016: 9-1 (First Round)

Last season was the 6th and final season for Jayhawk-Linn under head coach Randy Leach. Leach was diagnosed with cancer in October. He had a successful tenure with the Jayhawks, going 34-22 in six seasons and making the playoffs in all but one of those years. Clint Johnson, who was an assistant last season for Jayhawk-Linn, takes over as head coach for the 2021 season. “The best part about last season was that our athletes continue to work hard and have a positive attitude every day,” Johnson says, “We did not have very many kids out, so we battled low numbers and injuries, as well as some health issues in the coaching staff that rocked our team pretty hard early, but then ended up motivating our athletes. I feel we learned how to fight through adversity.”

Jayhawk-Linn is in a position that a lot of small schools are in. They need to build some numbers and depth. “Low numbers and inexperience were big challenges last year,” coach Johnson says, “We were also really young. We will have a lot more experience on the field this season.” As with every young team, taking care of the ball will be the starting point for the Jayhawks in 2021. “We need to limit mistakes,” Johnson adds, “We lost some close games and let some games get out of reach because we made some turnovers and penalties that really hurt us. If we can limit that and execute our assignments, we will have an opportunity to be more successful.” Johnson says in addition to the added experience, the team has been more committed in the weight room this summer. “We expect our guys to pick up where they left off last year, and continue to improve and compete every day,” Johnson finishes, “At some point this season, we will look to every player to be leaders on the field, but I specifically expect the seniors on the field to lead our team.”
