WEMO Conference

School Colors: Orange and Black

Head Coach: Mark McFarland (0-0, 1st season)

Assistant coaches: Tyler Gripka, Chad Karr, Adam Sallee and Gabe Haddock

“I knew what I was looking for, and Jasper checked all the boxes. It’s a small, rural, supportive and proud community and a school system with rich tradition and pride. I’m very excited and appreciative of the opportunity. I look forward to establishing a program and a culture that the community and school will be supportive and proud of. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked on great coaching staffs with many fine young athletes at successful, tradition-rich schools over the past 30 years in Kansas. I hope to bring knowledge and experience obtained along the way and present our student-athletes with the best opportunity to be successful in the classroom, on the field and in life.”

Five Year Trend (Playoffs)

It was a pretty good season for Jasper in 2020 in their only season under head coach Joey Ballard. The Eagles went 5-5 overall, including a 60-40 win over Northwest-Hughesville in the first round of the district playoffs. It was their first playoff win since 2015. Mark McFarland was hired to be Jasper’s head coach in the off-season. McFarland comes to Jasper after serving as a long-time assistant at Girard High School in southeast Kansas.

This will be Jasper’s second season in the 8-man game, and their first season under coach McFarland. “We have quite a few players returning with experience at the varsity level,” McFarland says, “We will be well-prepared each week and we will play hard from start to finish. We hope to be physically and mentally tough, and bring a relentless work ethic to the field every day.” On one hand, these players will have to learn a new system under McFarland. On the other hand, unlike last year, they won’t have to learn a new system AND a new style of football. Jasper should pick up where they left off. “We expect to give extra effort, always,” McFarland finishes, “Our expectations are to accept changes and challenges head on with a fierce, competitive spirit and confidence in order to give ourselves the opportunities for success every day and every game. We want to be prepared every week and consistently compete at our highest level possible, and to assume responsibility and be held accountable for our attitude and actions.”
