2020 REVIEW

The Trojans were presented the challenge of playing well over half their games on the road. The 2020 season was yet another in which Girard flirted with a .500 record. They beat Columbus in the first round of the playoffs, ultimately falling to Prairie View the following week. “The best part of last season was how we finished the season playing our best football,” says Philpot. “We can be pretty good if we execute what we are supposed to be doing.”

2021 SEASON OUTLOOK

Coach Philpot lists Brecken Troike, Ethan Merrell, Gage Davenport, Luke Niggemann and Alex Coester as the guys he expects to lead the Trojans in 2021. They all bring game experience to the table. With that said, the skill positions will be the strength of this team because of the experience they have. Conversely, the offensive and defensive lines lack experience and there will be many new faces. Cordell Searan is listed as the only returning starter to the lines. “I think our OL/DL will grow up quickly, so I am excited about that group,” Philpot says. To be successful in the fall and to finally get over that .500 record hump that the Trojans seem to be stuck in, Girard’s biggest focus should be on limiting turnovers and self-inflicted mistakes.
