2020 REVIEW

It was a good season for Fredonia. The team finished 5-3, made the playoffs and even won their first playoff game since 2007. After that win, they were stopped by COVID-19 prior to their second round game. “We had a very strong season,” coach Svaty says, “We started 1-3 in our first four games, but after that we overcame some adversity. We became very efficient on offense, and got stops when we needed on defense.”

2021 SEASON OUTLOOK

Everybody is happy to put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror, especially this team. What happened to Fredonia last season is exactly what I hoped wouldn’t happen to a team. They won their first playoff game since 2007, and then were not able to play in the second round due to COVID-19 issues. This season the Yellowjackets have a solid group returning, aiming to keep building in their 5th season under coach Svaty. “Our keys to success will be rebuilding an offensive line, being able to run the ball against the best competition we see, along with replacing some big play potential in the passing game,” coach Svaty says, “We will need to continue to get stops in critical situations of the game defensively. We were much improved in that category last season. We have good kids and good coaches, and we look forward to 2021 without COVID-19.” So do we, coach. So do we. I feel like there’s a lot of parity in Fredonia’s district this season. We’ll see how it plays out, but they have their eyes on a 4th consecutive playoff appearance in 2021.
