PhotoSpiva Kids exhibit to open Sunday at Spiva
Joplin, Mo. – Youngsters ages 4 through 8 will share their artistic insights through photography during a reception for the opening of the PhotoSpiva Kids 2014 exhibit at 2 p.m. Sunday at Spiva Center for the Arts, 222 W. Third St. The reception will include an awards ceremony for exhibit participants.
PhotoSpiva Kids is an annual class and exhibit that accompanies Spiva’s nationally recognized PhotoSpiva exhibition, which opens to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8.
The children’s edition of the photography exhibit began with a class on the basics of good photography. Participants were then loaned a digital camera and sent into the community to “capture” their surroundings. At least two images by each youngster are featured in the exhibit, which runs through Sunday, March 30.
This year’s jurors for PhotoSpiva Kids were David and Whitney Scott of Whitney Scott Photography, Carthage. Exhibit sponsors are Corner Greer and Associates, Architects, Joplin.
Framed prints of exhibition photographs are available for $25 and unframed prints are $10 each. The young photographers earn 60% from the sale.
A new addition to PhotoSpiva activities this year is PhotoSpiva Tweens for 9- to 13-year-olds. It, too, includes a class in which participants are sent out to photograph the community with a resulting exhibition of their work. That exhibit will open Sunday, April 6.
