FRONTENAC, KS – Paul A. Troop, 91, of Frontenac, died February 11, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.
He was born January 30, 1931 in McCune, KS the son of Asa and Clara Schlatter Troop. He lived in Monmouth, KS moving to the Pittsburg and Frontenac area in 2009. He graduated from PSU with his degree in education.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Troop married Lillie Malcolm in August of 1951 and she died July 31, 2007. He married Carol Brouhard Humphreys on September 12, 2009 at the Osage Church of the Brethren, McCune, KS and she survives at the home.
He was an educator and farmer, serving as principal and superintendent of several area schools, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Osage Church of the Brethren, McCune, KS, the Steel Guitar Club in Baxter Springs, McCune Lions Club and the Pittsburg American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Carol of the home in Frontenac, one son Kevin Troop of McCune, one daughter Paula Surridge and her husband Dick, of Parsons, one step son Terry Humphreys of Sedalia, MO, two step daughters Brenda Deringer of Franklin and Pam Terry of Pittsburg, one sister Pearl Miller of Chelas, Washington, three granddaughters Megan Parfait of Bougre, Louisiana, Pamela Nicole of Branson, MO and Ava Troop of Chanute, one grandson Dustin Surridge of Iola, KS, 9 great-grandchildren, including Ryleigh Surridge, Reid Surridge and Heston Surridge, 12 step grandchildren and 24 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillie, one grandson Darin Surridge, step daughter Gayla Kurtz, two brothers Howard and Harry, four sisters Hazel Foster, Ethel Hammond, Agnes Staggs, Ruth McLaughland, and a step great-grandson Travis Humphreys.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Wednesday February 16, 2022 at the Osage Church of the Brethren, McCune, KS with the Rev. Jim Therrin and Rev. Lester Green, officiating. Burial will be in the McCune Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Brown-Bishop VFW Post #704 of Parsons, KS at the graveside. Vocalists will be Connie and Danny Egbert and the organist will be Sharon Leonard. Pallbearers will be John Hiller, Jim Huff, Allen Egbert, Greg Nutt, Ray Huff, Vernon Egbert, Galen Hiller and Chris Allen. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS.
