Patricia Jean Platt (Shumway) passed from this world into her Saviors arms on May 27, 2022. She was born June 30, 1937 to Roy and Theresa (Peevy) Shumway in Lake Odessa, Michigan.
Pat loved the Lord and was saved as a young girl at North Street Bible Church in Jackson, Michigan. Her favorite verse from the Bible was Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boost”. Pat and Dick were long time members of the First Baptist Church in Miami.
After graduation from Jackson High school in 1955, she worked various jobs until she met the man she prayed for, Richard (Dick) Platt. They were married on December 24, 1966 and were soul mates for 49 years until Dick’s passing.
They lived in several different states before settling in Miami, Oklahoma. Together, they started Oklahoma Leather, a business adventure of a lifetime.
Pat and Dick were blessed to be able to travel the world together, from Europe to Hong Kong to Australia to Hawaii. They had so many wonderful memories.
Pat found time to be a champion golfer, she was a member of the Women’s Golf Association, winning many awards and championships in and around the Miami Area. She also loved to play Bridge, Bowl, she was a member of the Women’s Bowling Association, and a member of the Republican Party. She also was a fabulous cook and loved to entertain.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Theresa Shumway, her husband, Richard (Dick) Platt, and her sister Bonnie Clink. Pat had three sisters who loved her dearly and had many fun “Sisters Reunions” over the years. She is survived by two sisters Cathy and George Barrie of Georgia and Lois Jackson of MI. Pat and Dick were so proud of their children and loved each one. Her sons are Phil Platt (Debbie) of MI, Steve Platt (Joann) of MI, Michael Platt (Connie) of OK. Her daughters are Kathy Natschke (Frank) of MI, Lynn (John) Smith, of TX, Susan (Brad) Berry of OK. They spent many fun filled vacations with their kids and grandchildren. Steve’s girls are Katy and Courtney. Lynn’s children include Sarah Orcutt and her husband Evan, and Nicholas Nelson. Sue’s son is Seth Berry. Kathy’s children are Tony and Amanda. Great Grand children are Maybel Nelson, Maylee Orcutt and Anthony Reynolds. Her life also, included many nieces and nephews, friends, and other family members.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home in Miami. Services will be Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Miami. Burial will be in Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery. Services are under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami. The family requests donations to be made to the First Baptist Church of Miami in Mrs. Platt’s memory.
