Parsons police investigate stabbing of 10 year old
14 year old in custody
PARSONS, Kan. — Parsons police investigate a stabbing involving a 10 year old victim. Officers were called to a home in the 2500 hundred block of Chess Tuesday evening at 9:11 pm. They found a ten year old with a two inch stab wound to the right forearm.
The youth said he was stabbed by a 14 year old neighbor and Officer Kyle Shields gave first aid. A guardian later took the child for medical treatment. The 14 year old was taken into custody on pending assault and battery charges and is held in the Girard Juvenile Detention Center awaiting his court appearance.
Police Chief Robert Spinks said the incident was frustrating because it rose from kids playing tag with a knife in the dark of night. Spinks also said, “Juvenile cases prove more difficult for officers due to privacy and parental cooperation requirements, but Officers Shields and Dickens conducted themselves admirably and were able to provide aid and assistance in a difficult situation.”
“What’s so frustrating with this incident is the need for adults to supervise, guide and direct their kids,” said Spinks.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to “See It, Hear It, Report It.” If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
