Parade marches on in Carthage

CARTHAGE, Mo. – The Carthage community enjoyed a “Make-Up Maple Leaf Parade” after the annual event was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

The owner of a business on the square held the event to help keep a bit of the tradition alive.

The parade went on a route about a half mile down Grand Ave. It featured about 40 entries.

While it’s not quite the same, for many people in attendance, this parade is keeping the memories going for generations to come.

“A lot of it is tradition. I’ve come to Maple Leaf and marched in Maple Leaf. I went to Sarcoxie High School. My daughter has marched it. My son has marched it,” said Jeff Lingenfelter.

Several people dressed up in costumes for the occasion, marching through Carthage.
