Joplin Police identify suspect shot by officers

UPDATE: Joplin Police release the name of an assault suspect who was shot and killed by police.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Carl Junction resident Joseph Endicott.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Police say one man is dead following an officer involved shooting in Joplin.

According to the Joplin Police Department a person called 911 saying they were being assaulted by a man with a weapon. Officers responded to 1523 S. Kentucky Avenue in Joplin around 3:45 this afternoon. During the incident, there was an officer involved shooting involving three officers. The suspect shot during the incident has died. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The officers involved are being placed on paid administrative leave and the Missouri State Highway Patrol has been called in to assist in the investigation.

No officers were injured in the incident.
