Oglesby leads Pitt State to berth in DII cross country nationals

The Pittsburg State University men’s cross country team earned an automatic qualifying berth to the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships by placing third in the team standings at the Central Regional Saturday (Nov. 6).

The Gorillas compiled a team score of 92 points. Augustana University took the regional crown with a low score of 43 points. Missouri Southern State University finished second with 81 points.

Redshirt sophomore Matthew Oglesby led the Gorillas with a third-place finish. He crossed the finish line in the 10-kilometer race in 29 minutes, 41.29 seconds. Redshirt senior Bryce Grahn placed 11th (30:08.90), while redshirt senior Connar Southard finished 25th (30:39.81).

The Pitt State women placed eighth overall at the regional with 255 points. Augustana claimed the regional title with a low score of 43 points. Minnesota Duluth placed second with 125 points and Mary finished third with 163 points.

Freshman Lara Murdock paced the Gorillas in the six-kilometer race with a 29th place time of 21:50.09
